Default colder outside than expected

Looking at the Met Office forecast temperatures for tonight and the
forecast is going for minimums in the 6-8C range for the SE. Driving
back from Dorking at around half ten this evening, the car thermometer
was bottoming out at 2.5C. Quite a difference, even accounting for urban
vs rural differences. It does feel cold outside, so I don't think the
thermometer is that far out.
