Thanks for providing a link to where a problem lies. When I was still at work, the Met Office web-site was maintained and designed in-house and pages were checked for W3C-compliance before publishing. Of course, there had to be non-compliant sections in the code to enable the pages to work with IE, but they were clearly identified. I don't know who is now responsible for design and maintenance of the site but it appears to be more W3C-compliant than the vast majority of web-sites - particularly of those who profess to teach web design. Regarding unnecessary complexity, I think designers should be constantly reminded of KISS - Keep It Simple, Stupid. -- Graham Davis, Bracknell, Berks.
