Default 2nd month 2nd record smashed for cold at Southend

Maximum today of 10.9°C beats my previous June lowest max of 11.6° in
2009 (5th). This follows the record coldest nax I've recorded in May.

Just got back from street party and have never felt so cold for many a
year.

What ever happened to Global Warming !!!

Whoever first said "Ne'er cast a clout till May be out" was being wildly
optimistic.

(I know that there's a theory that it refers to may blossom rather than
the month, but that would I think make it earlier rather than later.)

My granny seemed to have the idea that it was "Ne'er cast a clout year
in year out".

Maximum here yesterday was 10.4° making it the lowest June maximum for
25 years. Steady rain and drizzle throughout as well.

I just checked the data I also have from John Benford and Bob
Pritchard, which starts at 1960 and nothing comes anywhere near the
lowest June maximum yesterday of 10.9°C. So I'm looking at a 52 year
record here.

It does make one wonder whether God is a republican, particularly as
we gave up what would have been the bank holiday weekend from heaven
last weekend!

Then again, Charles and Diana and Wills n' Kate had very good weather
- and in 2002, the "normal" late May bank holiday weekend was utterly
foul IIRC while the golden jubilee weekend as a reasonable mix of two
sunny, two cloudy but dry days.
