Well I've never known a forecaster come out with a statement like that!
But that's what he said at midday today. No sign of anything summery for the next two weeks. A bit rash in my opinion because it doesn't take much of a change at this time of year to get something half decent. He also said that somewhere in and around the S.E and south Midlands was likely to get a month's worth of rain tomorrow. Presumably he meant based on June's figures which is about 45mm. We'll see. Dave, S.Essex I have just watched the Countryfile forecast. Low pressure all week, fronts and winds coming from the far north (off the top of the chart in fact). If anyone can construct a worse synoptic chart for summer that is realistic, I'd like to see it. |

We're in mid wales and have been watching the New channel in horror at what's been going on at Aber. Rob. |

Would it be cold enough for all this precipitation we've had over the last two weeks to fall as widespread snow? If so, can you imagine the disruption that would follow. |

OTOH the precipitation probably wouldn't have been as heavy, as the colder the air the less moisture it can hold. -- John Hall Johnson: "Well, we had a good talk." I'll put the washing out to dry, cut the lawns, and then get the deck chair out for a bit of sunbathing. :-) jim, Northampton (south-east Midlands) |

Dave, S.Essex .... particularly as some GFS runs are showing high pressure next week. I bl**dy hope so! I guess Tuesday to Thursday this week will be vaguely passable too, though no sign of the temperature getting anywhere close to 20C [20C in June... gasp, whatever next, snow in winter...] before that goddawful low comes along on Friday, looks almost as bad as the one at the end of next week. Sunshine levels shockingly low as well here in Southampton, no measurements but I'd guess 10 hours on Saturday 9th, 4 hours on Monday 4th, 3 hours on Sat 2nd and 2 hours on Wed 6th - and nothing else at all IIRC. 2 hrs/day - must be close to the January average! July to October had better be good to make up for this. Grrr.... Nick |

Didn't get the washing out, didn't cut the lawns, and the nearest I got to a suntan was a nasty scald off the kettle while making some soup. I do wish the forecasters wouldn't generalise like that. After all, what is a normal month's rain in this country, apart from ruddy wet when it gets out of hand? 16mm today, so we got off very lightly. jim, Northampton |
