Interesting that the lowest minimum recorded anywhere in the UK and the highest maximum only differed by 11 degrees. I imagine that is quite rare, especially in the summer months. -- John Hall Johnson: "Well, we had a good talk." Boswell: "Yes, Sir, you tossed and gored several persons." Looks like less rain fell than was originally forecast. I had heard
suggestions of up to 100 mm of rain could fall in some places. |

"5 inches of rain in 24hrs" is another quote, but again not attributed to any particular location. .... from the Met Office summary of daily extremes, then in the 24hours to 2200A (2100Z) yesterday, Blencathra (Lake District) had 88.0 mm, and in the 24 hours to 0600Z this morning (from SYNOPs), Keswick had 90.2 mm. I suspect that given these figures, the network of gauges that we don't see reported (e.g., the EA networks) will have achieved over 100 mm, perhaps well over. The Ops Centre at Exeter (which now has the joint EA/MO Flood Forecasting Centre co-located) can interrogate the gauges in real-time and that may be where the explicit 'over 100mm' has come from - these figures will be fed down the line to the broadcasters and included in routine guidance issues.
