In article , As the group's much-ignored charter says: "Any discussion of climate issues should be from a scientific standpoint and not a political (or environmental-activist) one." How was that supposed to work? The environmental activists have taken over Reading. Now they seem to be running the Met Office. They started out in the potting shed in the back of the University of East Anglia and went Doolali from there. Their pretty nigh risible efforts were once based on the chronological lapse rate of Snowdrops to Dandelions. Suddenly it included SciFi and shook the world. All based on nothing more than half-arsed guesswork about trees that may or may not have grown in a region that has sudden diurnal weather patterns that even Little Englanders would find hard to live with and upper ocean surface changes that have strikingly banal average differences. Mention the ring of 12 and the 0.6 C and the argument is finitoed. Why? Because nobody has ever been told about them. Why? Because it isn't in the interests of the interested parties to discuss the lack of anything scientific in their pseudo science. All they need do is wait for a magnificent period such as the series of weather we have had world wide over the past few weeks and everyone who has never even thought about it before is a staunch believer. And the problem then become a matter for discussion on forums such as this, because anything that appeals to the gullible is a subject that politicians can use to side track fools and children. So much for the charter. No discussion on here, about glowballs, has ever considered the physics involved. (Apart from some of the stuff I have posted.) I remember one time, a chemist telling me on here that sulphur dioxide turns into sulphuric acid in the air. With that level of discussion/intelligence it is difficult to be mellow and forbearing. |

How was that supposed to work? You have to remember though that was written at a time (mid 90s) when this group first started and the polarised debate on AGW wasn't as evident as it is today. The polarised standpoints some take may be undesirable but given that it has become so much a part of meteorology/climatology it would be unrealistic to expect such discussions not to take place here. Sign of the times, I'm afraid. -- Col Bolton, Lancashire 160m asl |

It must already have been enough in evidence for Philip Eden (who I think was the group's proponent) to think that it would be prudent to mention environmental-activism in the charter. -- John Hall Johnson: "Well, we had a good talk." They really are becoming idiots. Flooding I can understand but rain and a warning that the ground might get wet. Surely this is one big joke to see how far they can get away with. Absolutely tripe and the forecast was crap as well with a couple of spots hitying me in the garden-should I go to A&E? Oh dear what a dangerous life I lead. Anyone from abroad seeing those -at the drop of a hat- weather warnings would think Britain is in serious trouble. ---------------------- I must admit I had been expecting some rain today mainly based on looking at the radar. Not a drop though and only 6mm since it all started. In fact I noticed the ground was very dry on the Essex marshes when I went for a walk. Dave, S.Essex Well the melodramatic twaddle has resulted in our village fair (the Revels) being cancelled. The Creedy is flowing across the field which would be the car park, and the rec has standing pools of water. However, that's not as bad as the many people who've been flooded out (some again). Warnings pretty much spot on here. Malcolm Newton St Cyres Devon ----------------------------- Yes I agree most of them were very accurate and useful. It just happened that the South East corner which was not in a high risk area virtually missed the rain altogether. Dave Here in Horsham it is certainly coming down. I'm supposed to be helping out at a community allotment project tomorrow afternoon, I'm going to need Wellington boots at this rate.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Oh no, not the dreaded wellington boots!!!!!!!!! This is some serious ****. I just wonder why wellington boots were developed so many years ago as a secret *weapon for todays RAINNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!! ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH**HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH It's driving *me mad it's &*^%king rain for GODS SAKE You know something, it is becoming very apparent why Dawlish hated you so much. You really are a nasty, bitter, warped individual who's dragging the quality of this newsgroup down imo. Perhaps you should follow in his footsteps and take a long retirement.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - * * Are you audtioning for the post of Dawlish-in-residence to this group? *I have to inform you that the position has been abolished, as it has elsewhere. *For a reasoned critique of Lawrence see what Col wrote. *That's the way to do it! Tudor Hughes, Warlingham, Surrey.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Is it? It doesn't suit everyone, but then again, everyone is not the same.......which is a very good thing. The day you think you can abolish someone, or their "position" (whatever that is) has not arrived. In my case, it won't *ever* arrive. *)) Dawlish; on holiday. |
