UKMO, GFS and ECMWF all seem to be trying to pull the Azores High in
our direction next weekend and beyond. Infact, GFS medium term has been quite consistently producing much more settled conditions beyond next weekend. I have a sneaky feeling we may see some summer yet, and with 6 weeks left for July/August, ther may well be some surprises ahead. Keith (Southend) http://www.southendweather.net "Weather Home & Abroad" This morning, GFS had the jet stream moving a little north on next Monday. Hope it wasn't an outlier. If not, it could be a small sign of some better weather. -- Howard Neil |

That has clarified a point: The tumult that is/was the recent series of hurricanes off Mexico/ Hawaii is/was mirrored in the North Atlantic by twin blocks of the High in the mid Atlantic and the Low over Britain. I must remember that that set up produced the world weather that hit every county's record books. It reaches them from as far back as 1888. But it must be a fairly common cycle (for a rational definition of "fairly common".) And its resolution will supply humongous amounts of insight into what actually causes "weather". One thing is certain: It ISN'T global warming! |
