As of 8.30pm it's started pouring down in the Stadium. A blob on the
radar about the size of the stadium, just in the wrong place and very
isolated. Mind you can't get through to Meteox or UKMO radar atm -
wonder why!

I thought for piers to not exactly get his deluge, but to predict rai9n so far out from the actual day was amazing in fact stunning. Now in the past I've been as cynical of Piers as anyone but really he's the jammiest man in the world or has really got some method. He's biggest problem is he always predicts in terms of worse , coldest, hottest whereas MO are far more measured.

It's alaso worth mentioneing that MO have hedged their bets on rain for the London area all week, sometims showing rain then sometimes not. It's obvious to me that ukmo are very cocious of amimosity that is building towards them and for all that computing power they couldn't be consistant about rain today wavering between showers and dry depending on which part of their website you looked at. Corbin's forecast of precipitation was stunning, his hyperbole of deluge OTT. But he was far more right from a long way out than MO.

I noticed the stadium looked damp when the coverage started.

That was about it, just that little shower before it started. No deluge
and no rain during so Corbyn was wrong in the end.
Fantastic show, shame about Macca but I kind of understand why they
stuck him in.

Corbin got the 'deluge ' part wrong not the precipitation

By the way Dave I never saw it out to the end; what was the issue with
McCartney besides the fact his voice has gone?

========================

The 'deluge' part was the most important bit. He reckoned it would be a washout.

Moreover, in summer in London the precipitation state at any one time is pretty much rain / not rain. A 50/50 shot - which does not represent any sort of predictive skill. And it's fantastical to suggest that a passing shower verifies a forecast of a deluge or washout.

On the other hand, as I mentioned previously, meteorologists, including the Met Office, had (a good while in advance) forecast that Friday 27th would see a breakdown in London's hot, sunny weather with a risk of passing showers. These were forecasts that verified rather well.

Hat tip to the models and to meteorologists' interpretation thereof, I'd say.

Yes I agree, my local forecast for the week issued last Sunday on my
website based on extrapolation from the Countryfile forecast reflected
the accuracy of the UKMO.
"At last we get a summery week! It will be sunny and become increasingly
hot, possibly reaching 30C by Wednesday. Thursday should still be good
but by Friday or a bit later there may well be showers arriving. It will
turn cooler and more unsettled by the weekend but there is still a
reasonable chance of some good weather returning during the Olympics."
The tiny dot of a short lived rogue shower at a specific location would
only be claimed as forecastable by a lunatic. Having said that I don't
think anybody has claimed to have predicted that - yet. In reality
Corbyn could claim a partial success wiith a slight timing error and
location inacccuracy of 20 miles as I did have a downpour for approx 20
mins at 2.00am giving 4.6mm.

Spot on! And his sell by date expired some years ago.
