uk.sci.weather (UK Weather) (uk.sci.weather) For the discussion of daily weather events, chiefly affecting the UK and adjacent parts of Europe, both past and predicted. The discussion is open to all, but contributions on a practical scientific level are encouraged. |

I finally installed a La Crosse 2300 rigged up a week or so ago. Today was
the first measured rainfall so I thought I'd post some values for comparison.. For 21st Sept Min temp = 10.5 Max temp = 25.5 For 22nd Sept Rainfall = 8.2mm Max temp = 22.1 (at 12:00) Max wind = 12mph I know there a a few posters here from Guildford area, anyone care to compare values for today to check out my readings. I haven't got the perfect position for any of the sensors - usual case of compromise, so I'd welcome a comparison from more established stations. Many thanks Terry |

I don't measure wind myself, but a station in Aldershot measured 28mph and in a heavy shower I reckon it was easily 35mph here in Fleet. -- Brian Wakem |

For 22nd Sept
Rainfall = 8.2mm Max temp = 22.1 (at 12:00) Max wind = 12mph I'm at Warlingham, Surrey, 556 ft AMSL. I'd say the rainfall looks about right, the max temp a bit high (mine was 19.5°C at about 1400 Z) but could be OK, but the wind definitely looks wrong. Until the cold front passed the wind here was SSW'ly force 4, gusts to force 5 at least, which means a mean speed of about 15 mph and maximum of at least 25 mph. Tudor Hughes, Warlingham, Surrey. |

Thanks guys. Sounds right, the thermometer maybe a little too close to the house, and not over grass, so might read a little high. Regarding wind the La Cross (cabled rather than wireless) logs maximum speed at quite big intervals (8 secs I think) and can easily miss gusts. Plus its not 10m above ground-level or clear of obstructions (i.e the house is to the SSW). Still its excellent fun. Terry |
