Default Damp lingering - err I think not!

This morning's 9.00 am News 24 Forecast for the S.E corner was for a
mainly dull day with some of the early light drizzle lingering for a
while before clearing into the North Sea. So seeing a cloudy but not too
damp start I figured a day out at the Wildlife Reserve would be ok. By
lunchtime 11.30am the ain increased and we have since had 9mm of heavy
at times rain on a continuous S.E streamer from France. It has been
almost dark all day as well. Good forecast at three hours range - not!
Dave, S.Essex.

Same hear in Brighton even the street lights at lunchtime were on, Probably
the worse day for ages and as you say the forecast was for improving!
Still moderate rain with the cloudbase on the deck and about 1000m
visability.

Yes Rob, I think that is the point. I realise elsewhere probably was an
improvemnet but it has actually been our worst day of the month in terms
of wet and miserable yet it was sold to me with such enthusiasm this
morning as an improvement on yesterday, although lingering damp was
mentioned.

This Did seem a bit underdone - the rain on the satellite looked like a conveyor belt that stretched the length of France. It has been quite drizzly and light here at times - I think Wanstead has been close to the edge of the conveyor

It was dull with mostly light rain / drizzle in Southampton. Dry in
the morning with signs of blue sky to the NW which I naively expected
to move overhead. Rather miserable but not as bad as those days we had
last week, which were truly awful.
It helped that the weather improved about an hour before sunset.

Looking at the radar is was quite a narrow band. Here in Devon we had a
similar experience with that front giving torrential rain and flooding in
Tavistock area with 21mm in 30 minutes (private report) but only around 10mm
total in my part of the world.

You might fair better today Nick but looks like they may have yet again
underestimated the extent of the cloud streaming up from France in their
forecast for the Eastern half of the country.
