RMK: We're just on the cloud base here with fog coming and
going. 50 ft lower down there's good visibility. 50 ft higher up there's
thick fog with vis 150-200m. I had to drive to Sheffield and back
earlier this morning. The cloud base is much lower over that side
and there was fog almost into the city centre.

RMK: The cloud lifted above ground level soon after 0900z and we
were fog-free from then till the fog came down again shortly before 1500z.
The cloud base has been around 200 ft for much of the day. I had another
trip to Sheffield and back this afternoon. Conditions are much worse over
that side of the hills. From just above Hathersage all the way into
the outskirts of Sheffield there's thick fog with the vis 100-200m. In
Sheffield the cloud base is around 120m a.s.l. Anywhere higher than
that is in fog. Not a good day for driving across the moorland roads
between here and Sheffield! Max temp 12.0

100m - 200m vis is quite OK for driving during the day with care. I drove
around dartmoor this morning in 50 metre visibility and that was OK at 25-30
mph, although I did know the road and the places the horses congregate. I
find that when the vis. gets down to 10 metres that it gets somewhat tricky.
Anything below 100 metres at night is also tricky.
