uk.sci.weather (UK Weather) (uk.sci.weather) For the discussion of daily weather events, chiefly affecting the UK and adjacent parts of Europe, both past and predicted. The discussion is open to all, but contributions on a practical scientific level are encouraged. |

I'm always excited at this time of year as winter approaches (my favourite
season!). This year, especially so. Nothing seems to have changed much in terms of dynamics since before I went to the Himalayas. The main Atlantic jet is still at a low latitude (circa 50-53N), it is still wriggling all over the place meaning that raging mild zonality will find it difficult to establish and so we can expect more trough disruptions (potentially severe weather events), minor blocked episodes and slow moving depressions. Interestingly northern Europe, in terms of thickness is expected to cool a lot in the next few days and naturally that opens the door to some snow in the UK as December progresses. The devil will be in the detail of course, but I fully expect to see tangerine snow warnings from next week onwards. I seem to have missed a massive rain event on Dartmoor, I don't intend to miss the massive snow event :-) Seasonal cheers, Eskimo Will -- |

How were the Himalayas? - is there a blog anywhere where I can read your experiences on any unusual met events you witnessed? |

It's India that does it. ;-) |
