with the rate of accumulation just about in balance with the rate of
melting. This morning there's 2-3 cm of very wet snow on the ground.
The falling snow is now very slight. There's a penetrating wind.

RMK: Sunny this morning then broken cloud in the afternoon. I drove
to Buxton early this afternoon and had to take a more circuitous route
than usual as my normal route was closed due to a serious traffic
accident. It's very likely that this was due to the road conditions
which were atrocious as a result of the sudden freeze between
0800z and 0900z. The main roads were fine but the secondary roads
had quite long stretches of snow, frozen slush and water, making for
a very slippery mix. If it freezes tonight it'll be very nasty. There's a
very sharp snow line at about 300m. Below that the countryside is green
but there's icy patchs on the roads. Above 300m everything is under a
blanket of snow and the secondary roads are quite badly affected. Here,
right on the snow line, we have about 50% cover 1-2 cm deep.
