Radar animation shows what looks to be a very persistent blob of orographically
induced precipitation over the extreme western tip of Cornwall during the past
couple of hours, roughly west of a line from Hayle to Marazion. Is it raining
in Penzance, Graham?

Only spitting Norman, about 0.2mm since noon (now 15:50). The rainfall radar often innacurately shows rain over Penwith in moist SWesterlies, often in a north south orientation near Tater Dhu. Very dark though, even at noon. Annoyingly, if heavy drizzle sets in the echoes tend to fade!

In fact almost a drought today compared with the almost biblical amounts of rain we've had the last few days. 104.6mm in Penzance just in the last 5 days, I'll try & get some EA figures for the Penwith Moors, Drift dam etc, I'm just
19m amsl. I've been out to Sennen today and the roads have standing water everywhere. Even the sand dunes have large lakes where I've never seen water before.

Decent wave though, 6'+ in a F2-3 just offshore SSW. Quite a few in.

I've just checked the radar, whilst the real rain is moving east just to the south (you can see it falling out to sea) the blob over the tip of Cornwall is remaining stationary, as it does when it's a 'false' echo.

The rain has just started properly in Penzance (16:15)
