uk.sci.weather (UK Weather) (uk.sci.weather) For the discussion of daily weather events, chiefly affecting the UK and adjacent parts of Europe, both past and predicted. The discussion is open to all, but contributions on a practical scientific level are encouraged.

Not so.

snip vapour pressure stuff that I don't understand (or prehaps just
don't remember from Physics 25 years ago).

To say that CO2 should condense out below -78.5°C is like saying
that water should condense out at all temperatures below 100°C,
which of course it doesn't, because its partial pressure is much
less than one atmosphere, ...

But doesn't the fact that CO2 doesn't have liquid phase (or if it does
it covers a very small temperature range) have an bearing on this?

Water between 0C and 100C (at normal pressures) is liquid rather than
solid... Water condenses out at sub-zero temperatures in its solid
form, ice. Yes, you can get supercooled water but disturbit and it
instantly freezes.

George W Bush wouldn't worry, just as long as he's secured another ten
years of oil supply for the USA.

Just as long as those 'backward' evil scum that reside in the 'Middle East'
got wiped out, I woudn't care.

Anyone want to be curious about this and give some answers?

In a short answer...

It would go dark and get cold.

.. The planet would no longer
be bound in a gravitational orbit and would just travel freely through
space.

semi serious question

If this happened, the planet would just fly off at a Tangent to its original
orbit (we'll ignore gravity from other planets etc for the moment), if this
happened, would we all fall off?

Yes, and if other planets are heading in another direction (such as any
planets that are near conjunction with the sun when viewed from earth) I'm
sure the gravitational affinity would be broken by velocity?

Our own planets gravity would keep our feet firmly on the ground of course.
But I do think the lack of solar orbit and related forces would maybe speed
up the demise of the temperature in the earth's core to a slightly greater
extent than others do.

We would still be influenced by the gravitational forces of other planets in
the Solar System.

I wonder if Jupiter's gravity would be sufficient to keep all the planets
together. Maybe the Planet Earth will eventually enter into an orbit around
Jupiter.

It may not be all doom and gloom. For instance, Jupiter's moon, Io, is very
very hot indeed. Its heat does not originate from the sun but from the
friction caused by constant squishing and squashing (tidal effects) by being
in orbit around Jupiter.

All those who support the 'growing disease' that resides in parts of the
Middle East. Only a small percentage, which is even sadder, as the rest get
dragged along and sacrificed by it all. These dudes need to be wiped out....
whatever it takes.
