Just heard that excitable Alex Deacon on Radio 4 say the snow is finding it
hard to settle because the ground is wet ! My old aunt used to say that too,I wonder what happens when the temperature gets down to near zero as its approaching here in Woodford Green ,with white cars and lawns ? RonB |

RonB There is some truth though in the apparent effect. For example at the moment the snow lying is very slushy and wet as the temperature is still above freezing, +0.5C although the DP is below zero. So the snow is mixing with the surface water making it slushy. Had it have been dry and the DP below zero I suspect the initial layer just above freezing would not have become wet and the snow then falling on that initial would have not been slushy. Dave |
