Default Orange Cold Weather Alert 3 -Time to Put the Babies Out To Enjoy the Conditions

This article really does make a mockery out of the ridiculous UKMO Orange Alert3 Cold weather warnungs
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/w...ldWeatherAlert.

Here's what they warn
"Advice: Prolonged periods of cold weather can be dangerous, especially for the very young, very old or those with chronic diseases.

If you want more information about how cold weather can affect your health please visit www.nhs.uk. If you are concerned about your health or somebody you care for, please contact NHS Direct on 0845 4647,"

Of course UKMO forgot to add on the last part 'please contact NHS Direct on 0845 4647' and there (my words) they will proceed to try and kill you with neglect and disease.

However I digress, the cold weather warning mentions the vulnerable like the very young.

Oh yeah try telling that to parents in Scandinavia who regularly put their babies out in prams in temperatures of -10C

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-21537988

It really put that whole pathetic warning system into perspective

This is true. I have seen it with my own eyes.

However, they do wrap the little ones in three of four layers of
clothing and make sure the pram is not facing into the wind.

Your average parent in this country is less likely to know how to
prepare a child for sleeping out in such unusual conditions so best to
warn them not to try?
It is a nanny state after all.

Indeed. And I imagine that the MO is required by the NHS to put out
these "cold weather" warnings, so that is where the blame - if you think
blame is appropriate - should go.

I was expecting Lawrence to be pleased that the MO (quite rightly)
hasn't put out any of their own yellow, orange or red warnings for snow
or ice.

As I hoped I'd managed to explain above, the cold weather warnings that
they put out at the behest of the NHS are completely distinct from the
warnings that they put out of possible hazards from snow or ice (or wind
or fog).

Yes Dave but those sort of Jeremy Kyle sink estate folk would never know where the UKMO website is let alone go there, in a zillion years. So who are those warnings for?

So who are those warnings for?
See John Hall's earlier post. You're best off asking the NHS that question,
rather than the MO.

Ah but it is a real good earner for the MetO. Health is big business not
just the warnings you see but private contracts too and MetO sales and
business staff are *very* enthusiastic as it brings the dosh in regardless
of what other people think of it. It's all about money nowadays in the MetO.
