That would be a fantastic way to end such an interesting meteorological
winter.

Sleet with light snow at 1800, it's those pesky low dewpoints that do it :-)

Of course winter will continue in March as the weather is no respector of
the calendar, indeed traditionally winter ends on 21st March and certainly
March is a late winter month on Dartmoor with Spring not really going until
April on most years. However, the first daffodil normally opens in March and
we do have primroses and drifts of snowdrops out now which are a delight.

As an aside, spare a thought for professional forecasters this coming month,
as forecasting temperatures can be a real headache with large variations due
to position of strong baroclinic zones and the increasing power of the sun
mitigated by cold seas. Challenging. I remember one year I was 10 degrees
out at London Weather Centre just 12 hours into the future, hard to believe
I know, but its true, its true :-)
