Hi , David,
Must be no uksw folk there. I've posted about Helm before and got no
reply, thanks for yours btw. I'll try the COL group as the wind
intrigues me. Rather like the Pennine lee wave in reverse only
fiercer. Best wishes, Ken

CAS forum has some stuff on Helm Bar including time-lapse.

Plenty more if you just search for 'helm.'

Hi, Graham,
Thanks for the reply. I've seen those and actually seen the Helm and bar,
just wondered if it was "on" today.
Warcop seems to have quietened down to a force 7 and the Great Dun Fell wind
recorder must have gone haywire, it's been reading mean 99KT several times
and up to mean 194KT before it stopped altogether about 03Z today. I know it
can be windy up there, but that seems a bit much!
Best wishes,
Ken

There is no apprent cap over Crossfell today but that doesn't always appear
with the Helm.

It's been bust for at least a week may be longer at least on the GDF page at
weatheronline:

http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/weath...=en&WMO=03227&
ART=wind&LEVEL=140

Normally showing 0 mph 0 deg.

Ah, right, thanks for the info. Probably slightly too far east, I think it
needs a north easterly,

The wind vane is indicating a steady northerly but the sound isn't quite
right for that direction, the wrong windows are whistling... Having just
peered out of a window at the vane the alignment looks a bit out and we are
in NNE'ly to NE'ly.

Is GDF reporting correctly in the raw METARs(?). Seems more than one website
hasn't got wind information from GDF so presumably the instruments are
broken/frozen up.
