I'd be grateful if you knowledgeable weather-students could clarify
which year it was as there seems to be some confusion in the media. The winter of 1962-63 has of course passed into folklore, so presumably it's 1963 and those outlets stating 1962 are using a lazy shorthand for 62-63 Thanks Patrick - York (a dusting of snow, 4C, wind-chill -1C) |

March 1962 was the coldest March on record in Coventry (to 1892) at 2.4C. This year the mean up until yesterday was 3.0C best wishes Steve Jackson Bablake Weather Station Coventry UK www.bablakeweather.co.uk @bablakewx on Twitter |

March 1962 was the coldest of the 20th century. Although in 1982-3 it was very cold from just before Christmas to the end of February, March 1963 wasn't too bad. -- John Hall "Madam, you have between your legs an instrument capable of giving pleasure to thousands and all you can do is scratch it." Some averages for March for comparison: 1921-50: 5.92C 1951-80: 5.58C 1981-2010: 6.58C -- Graham P Davis, Bracknell, Berks. I don't remember it, being just 6 at the time but do the following infamous winter which started with heavy snow on Boxing Day 1962, if memory serves |

However, for Wokingham, using the temperature data for this month so far, and inserting the 'forecast' values for the next 7 days, I end up with a mean for the month of +3.5C. In terms of the long-period Wokingham series back to 1882, it would be the 6th coldest March, and the coldest since 1962, mean +3.1C. -- Bernard Burton Wokingham Berkshire.
