Would it be correct to say that these are distrails in altocumulus? Never
seen one before!

First one's easy Les. Are you sure that camera was looking east and not
north east? Quite clearly it's a map of Norway.

Don't know really. Not distrails though - unless there was a huge great
formation of aircraft flying through that cloud. I would have thought it
was simply some vertical oscillation (wave effect) of the airflow. However,
the archive synoptic chart shows no isobars, so little wind (at low level -
probably similar at height). So don't have an explanation.
