The 1965 summer wasn't that great either, IIRC. Thanks. The 1965 summer wasn't that great either, IIRC. In fact there was hardly a decent summer during the decade, as I remember it. I don't think '64 was too bad. We had a hot spell at the end of May and, after the European Monsoon struck with a vengeance at the beginning of June, that month was a washout. The rest of the summer, as I recall, was mainly dry and sunny but not particularly warm. What I remember about the summer was that it was a westerly type but fronts crossing the country would have no rain and precious little cloud when they reached our neck of the woods - Beds/Northants. -- Graham P Davis, Bracknell, Berks. Unless your name is Bryan Adams: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9f06QZCVUHg :-) Actually that summer was fairly decent by the looks of things: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/media/pdf/e/r/Jun1969.pdf http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/media/pdf/e/q/Jul1969.pdf though August was a bit rubbish. From the same site http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/archive/...r-report-1960s 1964, 67 and 69 were generally good but most of the others a bit rubbish. Seems that the romance of sixties summers was a bit lost here.... Nick |

It is striking to note how the weather behaves following the deaths of former British prime ministers. The summer following the death of 'Sunny' Jim Callaghan on March 26, 2005, was fairly decent. His death was closely followed by my personal favourite PM Ted Heath, who died on July 17 the same year, at the end of a heatwave. The deaths of Harold Wilson on May 24, 1995, and Alec Douglas-Home on October 9, 1995, sandwiched an absolutely stunning summer - one of the best I can remember and one that is often strangely overlooked. The death of Harold MacMillan on December 29, 1996, was followed by a decent summer, with a notably hot August. The one exception was the death of Anthony Eden on January 14, 1997, which was followed by a mostly cool and dull summer So, perhaps Maggie could yet do some good? This theory was posted about THREE months ago and is now coming to fruition - in line with our long range forecast. Another VICTORY for us - but this time it was my theory NOT Piers. So I think I deserve my Romeo y Julieta half corona now - not some crappy Hamlet. |
