If I decide to reply to someone, hughes, my "style" won't be dictated by someone like you, I can assure you. As I've said before; you are welcome to your opinion, but this present round of invective has been precipitated by me exposed your attempted lie.

He's done exactly what I said he would and talked late night, veiled, violence again and now has some mad idea that stuartstorric is me. I think he thought that Reg was me as well. Put him right, dear boy, will you?

PS You can bet you life that the first thing that Will does this morning is to check how many new people are "supporting him". The temptation to post must be huge and I hope he does. No-one cares what the far right-wing, very bitter old man (perfect existence, isn't it) does this morning except himself and no-one cares, but him, whether he posts. *))

Even when he's gone you can't resist taking a swipe at him.

I'll say what I say, Col and you can say what you say. *)) Neither has any control over the other, nor should we and that's the same for everyone - thank goodness! The alternative is moderation, or a forum. Amazingly enough there's no rule against bringing non-posting members up in a discussion either! We both know that - so where's the "swipe", exactly?

Will hasn't gone at all; he's watching daily and having a rest. People need that from time to time and I've done the same myself. There'll be all sorts of reasons in the background as to why he's temporarily had enough (he's hinted at one). People are far more complex animals than the one reason they give to others for doing something and we all know that. It's a good excuse for him to have a go at me, however and I never mind that; people have that right.

If I'm wrong and he never posts again, the newsgroup will continue as the sum of its parts. No individual will *ever* like every part. That's the real world and although we've had some rose-tinted comments, it never has been like that on USW at any time before and that includes before my time. Inter-necine wars have always occurred, people have left, been being driven out (weak, IMO), taken breaks from posting, or taken their bat home for a while in a huff at someone. The present situation is almost always worse than the past. True?

Do the words "social etiquette" have any meaning to you whatsoever?

Or are you just one of those people who thinks that being dissociated
from any consequences to their actions by hiding behind a keyboard means
anything is fair game? What I like to think of as civilised only by
social constraint as opposed to civilised by nature.

You are welcome to hold that opinion, but there is no such thing as "social etiquette". Instead, there is a range of contributory styles. Mine is one. You have a different one, Adam and good for you. I'll now refer you back to the first sentence of my reply to Col.

You know full well where the 'swipe' was.
Implying that Will is so full of himself that he's just sitting there having
his ego massaged by counting all the people who love him.
And trying desperately not to post because he'd 'lose face' if he did.

Social etiquette?

On an unmoderated newsgroup?

Ha ha ha, and who exactly will produce the social etiquette rules? Let
me have one guess - yourself?

Who will police these rules? Perhaps you will also volunteer for this
role? It is beginning to sound like fascism to me.

From what I have witnessed Lawrence v Dawlish is like witnessing two
kids bickering in a playground. It is obvious they dont like each other
and the roots of this go back many years. Each one seems to be trying
to maintain that the other is some form of lesser intellect, and
neither is ever going to back down from this view, it would appear,
This is a shame, because from what I have read of their contributions
they both seem decent people (despite what all their self righteous
supporters may believe) and they both make valuable contributions to
the debates.

It just seems that neither likes to have their views rubbished in
public by the other, which is only natural. Maybe when the penny drops,
they will see that actually they have far more in common with each
other than they think.

So that's what I meant. *)) Interesting, but wide of the mark. Whatever Will does is up to him. Whatever you do is up to you and the same goes for me. We all have our different posting schemas and we are not all the same, fortunately for all of us.

I think Dawlish was just being mischievious.

It seems to be a common theme. The cat has gone away, and we mice are
having a rare old time.

Social etiquette?

On an unmoderated newsgroup?

Yes, that's correct. You know, the general guidelines of social
etiquette that allow people to interact properly and get on with each
other in a civilised society. The sort of ideas that your parents should
have brought you up with whilst you were growing up. I fail to see why a
newsgroup should be any different to interacting with people face to
face, unless you are a coward who is only brave enough to mouth off
whilst dissociated from any consequences.
