Default Snow?

Just wondering whether there will be any reports tonight.
Heavy showers here, 7mm this evening and temp now down to 4.7 and falling, so a good chance on the tops of the North York Moors I would have thought.

How unusual is it to get low level snow at your location at this time of
year?

1992 was the last time that I remember it happening, that was 25th. May.

A little bit of snow blowing in the wind just now. Top of Rotherhope Fell was
decidedly grey when it emerged from the cloud just after 0700 this morning
but that has now gone. Crossfell is almost but not quite white.

Overnight min 0.6 C. 2 C at 0830, now 5.2 C. Wind NW'ly F3 but rather lazy.

Imagine the snow for yourself and for much of England if the low, which is forecast to run south to locate itself, for a while, over London, were to do that in mid-January.

The weather forums would be in ecstasy. There may even be a raised eyebrow, or two on here. *))

I don't think that those who spent the night on the M11 in Jan 2003
need to imagine the snow that arrived from a similar situation. They
probably still have nightmares about it.

Just the situation I was thinking of.

We actually had a heavy sleet shower about 1030. I had to go outside to convince myself it wasn't hail.
Sub 10c today and now back to 4.4 with rain again, but the wind is taking longer to get going than I expected.
