If you are not a Red Dwarf fan you will have no idea why I find that so

funny.....

Oddly enough it's one of the comedies I genuinely couldn't stand despite

most people loving it. Repeating 'smeg' losing its appeal after the 2nd

time around...

The word 'Smeg' was never inteded to be some kind of a running-joke,

or of the main threads of the show. It was jusr a mildly amusing

alternative swear word that could be used where our current ones couldn't.

Rather than being an "alternative swearword" it's an Americanism and short for "Smegma".

This was always denied by the writers, though.

Red Dwarf fans always seem overly defensive of the show...

If you actually watch it you will see that there isn't uprourious
laughter when the word is used, it's just a means to an end.
It's not intended to be like a cathphrase.

That's not being 'over defensive', it's just explaining how it is.
But then I get the impression you hardly watched any of it
anyway, so you wouldn't know.....

The great thing about Glastonbury is that there's a huge range of music, to suit just about all tastes. **All** tastes, Graham? Where were the symphony orchestras? The operas? The massed pipe bands? The Spooky Men's Chorale? Aage Grundstad soundalikes? Three Tenors soundalikes? (rhetorical question btw!) *You* may perceive that Glastonbury offers a huge range of music. I beg to differ. What I heard of it all sounded much the same, i.e. incomprehensible lyrics with little if any tune backed by some sort of thumping, the whole lot completely dependent on excessive amplification. But as long as I am able to reach the 'off' switch, good luck to Glastonbury and other similar events. If that is the sort of thing people like, then that is the sort of thing they like, and as long as it isn't imposed on those who don't like, it, well and good. Anne

I suppose one could expect a thread with a musical connotation of any kind to produce some heat ... FWIW, I can enjoy a wide range of musical "categories" but have always preferred not to hear pop/rock/blues ... at too loud a volume. I simply find that different categories elicit different emotions and thoughts.

Please give examples of under-rated groups in the history of music.

Why?

Because any coward can just appear and fire off personal hatred of
bands they don't like without daring to reveal their favourites, for
fear of getting the same treatment they like to give out.

David Accles. Dylan, Sad Cafe, Kiki Dee. It's an opinion, not a personal hatred; in my opinion the Beatles are over-rated. In my opinion most classical music is boring.
Opinion - a belief or judgement that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty.
A personal view, attitude, or appraisal.

Sad Café!!! Are you sure. Every Day
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-TakXYf6sk

is nothing but a Beatles song called No Reply/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILdBDOPoEDQ

Only the John Lennon song was some 16 years earlier
