Hi
I know that this may seem strange coming from the bloke that was waxing lyrical about temperatures in Devon the other day but I'm twisted... Don't the BBC presenters ever tire of looking for the next hottest day of the year (which if course will occur either in LONDON or the SE) or telling us how the temperature in Central LONDON will be no lower than 25C at midnight. Yes, its a brilliantly sunny and very warm (locally hot must get that in) dry spell but they do in my opinion go overboard when they start saying "Maximum temperatures of 26 or 27 with some places getting to 28 or 29 and I shouldn't be surprised if somewhere in the LONDON area doesn't see 32 or 33C" What's this obsession and endless fascination weather presenters have with numbers and temperatures that I bet many tourists from warmer climes find absolutely hilarious as I do. Yes tomorrow will be another very warm day even hot for some in LONDON but forget the numbers, Joe Public can't tell the difference between 29 or 30C to them its just bloody hot! Bruce. |

Because 15% (8 million/53 million) of England's population live in London, the fact that 85% don't live in London is lost on a London based media.

If the highest temperatures (by day and night) are or are going to be in London then quite simply that's what's going to be reported. There are worse things about TV weather presentation to worry about. Stephen. |

Last week the the highest temperature of the year so far was in Northern Ireland and that was just as widely reported. -- Col Bolton, Lancashire 160m asl Snow videos: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3QvmL4UWBmHFMKWiwYm_gg |

I wouldn't be surprised either if they reach 32/33C this weekend. |

The incredibly boring "London,S.E Media Bias" moans continue endlessly. I was sitting here in the S.E under all that horrible cold grey stuff a few weeks ago listening to the forecaster waxing lyrical about another glorious sunny day for most of the UK especially in the SW and Scotland but didn't feel any sense of persecution, despite the low numbers of people living in those areas. |

I'm also slightly amused by some correspondents bemoaning (and even not coping with) the current heat, when we here in the effete and nesh southeast were more or less castigated last winter for not venturing out into the cold and snow in shorts and flip-flops. You won't hear too many in London, aside from understandable moans about the heat on the Tube, complaining about this warm and sunny weather. They just loosen their collars, venture out into the parks and get on with it. ![]() Stephen. |

A hypothetical question but, if the South East & London were still mainly green fields instead of a concrete jungle, how much lower would the temperatures throughout the summer be if the heat island effect was taken out of the equation???
