The weather that is. Recent gusts 60mph at Land's End and Culdrose, 70mph on Scilly where it's a F9-F10 http://www.minack.com/webcams/webcam.jpg .
The sea state is fairly horrendous http://www.minack.com/webcams/webcam.jpg I noticed the lifeboat going out of Newlyn around 10:00, it was fairly hair-raising watching it pass Penlee point. Graham Penzance |

Graham Penzance Eventual strongest gusts in the 70-75mph range on the most exposed parts of the south coast, and exposed hilltops like Culdrose where the maximum gust was 71mph. At 18:00 there were reportedly 2,400 homes without power across the Cornwall, with Helston and Marazion most affected. There was a steady decrease in the wind (rather than any sharp drop) throughout the afternoon, though it's picking up a bit in the latest batch of rain. Luckily the tides aren't big at the moment. Swell peaked at 21' at Sevenstones, everything developed too quickly for a really large swell today, but that doesn't mean that the sea isn't very rough, it certainly is. A larger swell is forecast to arrive tomorrow, and possibly bigger still on Friday.http://magicseaweed.com/Sennen-Surf-Report/4/ Graham |

Everything developed too quickly for a really large swell today . . a larger swell is forecast to arrive tomorrow. And it has, up to 24' at Sevenstones earlier today. Eventual rainfall for the event 38mm here near sea level. I have a friend trying to get back to Cornwall. He was probably on yesterday's last train, which was due to leave Paddington about 19:20, due in Penzance about 00:30. Well, I've just seen this morning's news and at 07:00 this morning the passengers were boarding a coach from Taunton to Exeter after having hit a tree and reached a submerged line. So he may be at Exeter now, just 14 hours to get less than half way time wise. (Paddinton to Exeter is around 2hrs 15mins, Exter to Penzance, 3hrs). I don't recall so many problems with fallen trees in the past, is it a maintenance issue? Currently 6.6C, hailing and really unpleasant http://www.landsendweather.info/. Graham Penzance |
