Presumably there's a slight thaw of any snow cover even in the absence of
the sun.

One can't tell, but some or all of that 13.2mm of precipitation might
have fallen as rain. If so, that might have done quite a bit of damage
to the snow cover. It looks as though a depression made its way up there
that hadn't yet occluded.
