A record metre (1000mm) of rain this winter is now certain, but how much more than a metre? I must be the wettest place in England apart from a few higher spots on Dartmoor? Almost there now. Up to 970.0 mm. As of 1800 Weds 12th. Interesting stuff! Will -- http://www.lyneside.demon.co.uk/Hayt...antage_Pro.htm Will Hand (Haytor, Devon, 1017 feet asl) --------------------------------------------- So amazingly interesting. You'll get there as the flooding on the Somerset levels, in the Thames valley, in Worcester, in other areas and perhaps on the Devon Coast again, gets to intolerable levels with the coming storms. Don't you care? You post here; you see the concern; you register every post that is made that registers that concern from others and yet you think it is fun to anticipate a record amount for you, somehow distancing yourself from the newsgroup and the discussion. If you don't want to post here; go away for good. If you can't leave, put up with the criticism when you wallow in personal records, about which few, except one or two acolytes profess that they care about. Or post - which most of us would rather you do. Exactly what is the point of what you do leaving these posts on here, Will? It is probably the same motivation as many who post on here - an interest in what is happening around the country? Yes, perhaps his excitement about a certain record may be lost on some. And flippant comments such as 'cool' when many are suffering are badly advised. But Will, like all of us, is not perfect.Indeed he may seem a bit petulant and unreasonable at times - a sign of a sheltered, easy life with little of lifes disasters to have to cope with. But Im prepared to overlook that and just read his records for what they are. |

Coming back from Gloucester, you're left with no doubt why certain areas are called 'flood plains'! But not with the reason why builders are allowed to put houses on them. Or why people who live in no such places are taxed with paying for them. TWIMC: DO NOT sign anything presented by a loss adjuster until you have paid an independent surveyor to look at your flood damaged property. Make sure he has paid careful attention to the foundations. Built on flood plains are drained to excess in normal years and to criminally damned in dry ones. River valleys tend to have many layers of clay rich sediment with nothing to ensure that between said layers of clay a sand or pebble layer can't build up a ballooning aquifer. Such a situation can easily cause the surface to rise (and later fall) 12 feet and more ( personally seen that... never mind what that Fidiot Dawlish (or sock thereto) has to say about glowballs and melting ice.) It doesn't help that all the rivers downstream along the Thames are enclosed, brick lined sewers. A comment on another thread some weeks back pointed to the fact that the least troubled region of the flooded levels were the ones that still had their trees. Trees don't so much stabilise the top soil as moderate conditions in the deeper levels. |

Just a small message of sympathy, accompanying that OP, for the communities who are suffering dreadfully because of this record wet weather, would have helped and I would not have replied to his question.
Cool, eh? Well, no; it isn't. Now you're just showing how pathetic you really are. You would have responded to any chink you could possibly find in any post of his and that is a really cheap shot to suggest he show sympathy. Personally I can't believe that you don't issue a message of sympathy with your erratic forecasts, you could easily be causing people distress with your predictions. I suggest you listen back to John Kettley on Radio 2 this morning, might have been Chris Evans show, and listen to his comments about weather enthusiasts and their excitement at recent events. |

You problem Dawlish, is not that you ignore criticism but that as a compulsive obsessive pedant you would be unable to deal with it if you were mentally capable of recognising that it isn't intended to hurt you. Being an obsessive-compulsive is not, I imagine, pleasant. But being compulsory inclined to the pedantic must be the worst form of the disease but being stupid as well... How on earth can you put everyone right on the internet when you have the IQ of a banana? You should emigrate to the USA and go into politics: http://piv.pivpiv.dk/ |

I thought better of you than that and I have maintained a level of politeness with you through our sparring. I still will, even though you clearly want to make this personal. It's a shame you have been reduced to this, David. |
