Definate glow to the northern horizon between the little bits of cloud. First aurora for years, there may have been other chances in the last year but cloud is PITA... Alerts from spaceweather.com and Lancs Uni Aurorawatch. Kp about 6, which it has to be to produce a visible aurora here and forecast to rise: http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/wingkp/24_hour.html -- Cheers Dave. Nr Garrigill, Cumbria. 421m ASL. Lucky sods! Also reported on BBC News website. However not a thing in East Cambs despite fairly clear sky :-(((( It might have been, don't get misled by the photos. Those will be quite long time exposures which can greatly enhance what is there over what the eye can see. These from 2003, I didn't percieve most of the red in those images and the green was the normal very pale milky green and the vertical striations are not as obvious. To the naked eye they can seem like a trick of the eye, is that really there? You also need to let your night vision develop fully as well, 10 mins or so. http://www.howhill.com/weather/view....2003&m=10&d=29 -- Cheers Dave. Nr Garrigill, Cumbria. 421m ASL. |
