Brussels on Sunday 9th March 2014
Blue sky and strong sunshine: just a few traces of high cloud. Exceptionally warm in the afternoon. Mostly light southerly breeze. In the Uccle record going back to 1833, this is the earliest date in the year that 20°C has been exceeded. Before today, the earliest day over 20°C on record was 15th March 2012. Before today, the earliest day over 20°C on record was 15th March 2012 That's quite a record to have beaten Colin. On his website, Belgian TV weatherman Frank Deboosere has posted a graph showing the dates of the first 20°C day each year in the Uccle record. http://www.frankdeboosere.be/vragen/vraag200.php Mean date over the whole period since 1833 when 20°C is first reached is 21st April. This is represented by the horizontal yellow line on the graph. Yellow dots indicate the first 20°C day each year: you can see the exact date by holding your mouse pointer over the dot. Red line indicates the 30-year rolling mean. Dates read upwards (March at the bottom and June at the top), so it can be seen that the first spring warm day tended to occur earlier in the year in the 20th Century than in the 19th Century, with a peak tendency to early spring warmth in the middle of the 20th Century.
