It's an AWS located at the ski reort above the summit of the A93 Blairgowrie to
Braemar road. It's been reporting since at least 1997.

Yes, I looked it up and discovered trhat it was associated with
a ski resort.
I'm just surprised I've never heard of it as it is an obvious candidate
for the lowest temps of the day and indeed the highest wind gust.

It's about 18 miles SE of Cairngorm and about 300 metres lower so, on most
days, Cairngorm will be colder. Also, the summit of Cairngorm is extremely
exposed so I expect that it will normally have stronger winds. Cairnwell would
probably get mentioned much more frequently if the station on Cairngorm wasn't
reporting.

And as it happens Cairngorm seems to have stopped reporting max/min atm :-(
