RMetS have posted the following on their website.
"Some of our older members, especially those who work at the Met Office may know Thomas Hubert Kirk. It is with regret that we announce that he has passed away in his centenary year at his family's home in Bari, Italy. He joined the Met Office in 1937, spending the war years in parts of Europe and North Africa as part of the RAF Volunteer Reserve. A varied career followed in different Met Office locations, including Harrow, Heathrow and Malta.
He will be best known for his last 12 years of service, as Chief Forecasting Adviser in the Central Forecasting Office in Bracknell - a similar role to that filled by Paul Davies as Executive Head of Meteorology today. He became an acknowledged expert on analysis techniques and the early use of satellite information. This saw him represent the Met Office on the WMO Working Group on the Global Data Processing System before his retirement in 1975.
Our condolences go to his family."
