Default El Nino and the coming winter

With the news that El Nino is on the way, it will be too late to produce a BBQ summer this year unfortunately but,
and this is a big but,
as regards the coming winter,
the El Nino phase tends to produce high pressure over the polar regions of the
N. Atlantic and low pressure further south, leading to cold winters in northern Europe.

So there you have my winter 2014-15 forecast.
Can I claim this as the earliest winter forecast on record?

I always thought that El Nino was associated with stronger westerlies therefore milder winters in western europe although I am unsure why. Would I be correct in saying that the colder winters we had in some more resent years co-insided with more nutral conditions with little influence from El Nino or La Nina?

The last el Nino started this time of year in 1997, the following winter
here at Southend-on-Sea was mild for 1998.

Mind you, with all this global warming stuff, nothing seems to follow
anymore. Forinstance, after the previous wet & mild winter, I was
thinking a month or two was going to be hot this summer, but I'm
beginning to wonder now???
