![]() "Dave Cornwell" wrote in message ... -------------------------------------------------------------- Most likely scenario - Italy beat Costa Rica (although far from a given), England beat Costa Rica (just because it's the sort of gesture we make!) while Italy and Uraguay play out a convenient draw that sees them both through. That had ocurred to me too. Or at the very least Italy 'rest' players having already beaten Costa Rica and qualified. And if they fail to beat them, well it's all over for England anyway...... -- Col Bolton, Lancashire 160m asl Snow videos: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3QvmL4UWBmHFMKWiwYm_gg |

In message , Dave Cornwell
writes I was expecting it to turn cloudy this afternoon and it did, but didn't see the deep depression forecast which passed by this evening :-( There's something to be said for being put out of our misery quickly, rather than it lasting till the last group game or the quarter-finals, as in most World Cups. -- John Hall Weep not for little Leonie Abducted by a French Marquis! Now we can enjoy Wimbledon in peace without the stupid mass media hyping up 'our lads' who are 'still in with a shout'. |

Now we can enjoy Wimbledon in peace without the stupid mass media hyping up 'our lads' who are 'still in with a shout'. What slightly gets me is the excuse that England was in a tough group. That may be true, but even if they weren't and got through the group stage, they would come up against a tough team sooner or later likely in the first or second knockout round. No team is going to win the world cup without being tested by strong opposition at least once. The bottom line is that the reason Englend went out is because they are not competitive, and if the English football authorities/officials/whatever are really bothered about that then they need to address why the team is not competitive and do something about it. |
