A surprisingly persistent and occasionally heavy shower occurred here in the late afternoon. It appeared almost stationary and it was difficult to determine which direction it came from. It eventually petered out almost in situ. Nothing like as much as the 27 mm which fell at Wisley (guess 5 mm - haven't measured it yet). No thunder.

It appeared stationary on the radar, too, Tudor. There was a fair amount of rain at London Bridge but only the tiniest trace in Wanstead when I returned home (0.02mm in the 5in gauge). Interestingly June at St James's Park, my closest official station, saw double the amount of rain as Wanstead. I've written a few lines on my blog http://wp.me/p2VSmb-to |

According to the Telegraph, Epsom recorded 36mm. Here in Cranleigh it rained quite heavily from about 2pm to 4pm. I'd guess we had about 10mm. Wimbledon had some rain it late afternoon / early evening, but it doesn't seem to have reached The Oval (or at any rate not before the scheduled close of play). From the area affected it seems that it was a bit more than a shower, even though it appeared convective in nature. -- John Hall Weep not for little Leonie Abducted by a French Marquis! The man-in-the-street would have just called it a spell of rain. Tudor Hughes, Warlingham, Surrey. |
