I wonder how long this will go on for. Already up to 3mm in the past hour. My 7-year-old is starting out the window waiting to go on a bike ride and is not impressed... 'Why does it rain when I'm not at school, Dad?'

Yes they have been saying since last weekend that this was going to be
very difficult to forecast and they were right - well wrong actually in
some of the recent forecasts. A glorious day in Nottingham for instance,
and the commentators have been commenting how they had expected rain.
Looks like it has turned back East now! Not much rain here just damp and
cold.
Don't worry - not just your son - I've been sulking (skulking) as my
wife is away for the next few days and I had some outdoor activities
planned, mostly around butterflies, but all of which required sunshine!

1639 update: 13.8mm between 10.45am and 2.30pm, falling at a maximum rate of 20mm / hour at noon. That's just over 1mm short of what fell during the whole of June
The clouds were moving back east at quite a rate 10 minutes ago - they seem to have slowed down again

Dave: my daughter has learnt that the park slide works quicker in the rain.
Ken: I didn't think you were allowed such nice weather up there?

Lovely stuff ;-) Luckily it's been like that most of this summer here so
we are glad of a bit of rain for the garden. (He says, putting a brave
face on a dire day! )
