How come I didn't know about this before?

BTW, what are the expanding rings around the lightning strikes?

According to the website, it is done to make the most recent ones more
visible.

To see lightning in almost real-time, we have added a new animation.
Each lightning strike is marked with a white expanding circle.

I didn't see such an explanation there?

Apparently, I've had this one in my weather/sferix bookmarks for at
least four years, possibly longer.
That means it has been mentioned in USW before as I only collect them
I don't go looking.
Which leads to the obvious question of how you missed it?

No really good storms here for a while?

Thanks for posting this link. I like the zoom featu I can home in
so closely on Brussels that I can almost make out the building I live in !

Thunderstorms over western Belgium at the time of writing (23.05 Belgian
time). Heavy rain and lightning can be seen on the Bruges webcam

I've been using that site for some time. Although I've not seen the
explanation for the expanding circles, they seem to expand at the same
rate as the speed of sound, so wonder if its meant to coincide with the
actual "bang" when the circle reaches your location. Of course, with the
site's own 4 second delay, you'll have no warning of the thunderclap at
the end of the road!!!

That did occur to me.

That's why I couldn't really determine the above.

Well that's just Google Maps, surely you musy have played
around with that or Google Earth before?

Zooming in on your own house is the first thing you do when
you discover those!

Yes of course I know Google Maps ! It's just that I can't remember seeing a radar or lightning site which allows such close-in zooming.
