Well the thunderstorm I had hoped for didn't materialise, all thundery
activity was either well to the East, or to the West of, the northern Solent shoreline... and the rain when it arrived from the London area was light and patchy, most of it evaporating before reaching the surface. The light rain shown on rainfall radar just east of Southampton in the last half hour just didn't happen, and the sun has broken through again. Screen temperature reached 28.7 deg C at 14:03 BST, dropping sharply from 28 at 3pm to 21.6 at 4:35 after what I'd describe as a gust front moving SW at 4pm, 18mph at 3metres for 5 - 10 minutes. Just a few spots of rain followed - the ground was never fully wet and quickly dried up, not measurable. Temperature is now back up to a humid feeling 25 deg C and sunny intervals. -- Dave Fareham (W). |
