It seemed more on the reports though I suppose the topography of that area would amplify rainfall of this magnitude? Rapid run off, funneling etc off the Downs? -- ------------------------------ This email was sent by a company owned by Pearson plc, registered office at 80 Strand, London WC2R 0RL. I think it's worth adding an extract from the Met Office blog on the thunderstorm event http://metofficenews.wordpress.com/ and I quote: Below you can see some of the highest recorded hourly rainfall totals from Environment Agency rain gauges through the morning of Monday 28th July 2014: Great Dunmow Essex 43 mm (4am to 5am) Isfield Sussex 37 mm (8.30am to 9:30am) Ardingly Sussex 35 mm (8.30am to 9:30am) Santon Downham Suffolk 33mm (3am to 4am) Weirwood Sussex 28 mm (9am to 10am) Northolt London 20mm (7am to 8am) No wonder some places were knee deep in water! Yet another dry day in my part of Fareham though... day nine! -- Dave Fareham (W) |
