In among all the Bertha fun (or lack of it) I thought I'd mention that
our pleasant summer weather continues. Today's figures so far (since midnight) at Locks Heath: Current air temperatu 20.6 C Max: 21.1 C at 14:17 BST (33rd consecutive day over 21 deg C) Min: 15.2 C at 01:13 BST Rain: 8.2 mm so far (less than the previous night/morning) Max wind gust: 21 mph so far, from the west (at 3m, walled garden) Min pressu 993 hPa, now 1001 hPa, rising quickly. Weather: occasional heavy showers, sunny intervals becoming sunny periods. Breezy. All in all, not a bad day considering the forecast. Patio doors wide open as usual this summer. -- Dave Fareham (W) |

A measure of how sunny and bright it has been I was amazed by the darkness in our living room at 9.30am this morning. I'd forgotten what thick cloud could do! Dave, S.Essex |

Yes indeed, but I've just realised that I will have to wrestle with my conscience as to whether I record 33 consecutive days of 70 deg F or more. 21.1C was the final max, and that's 69.98 deg F! I only had 18 consec. days over 22C though, ended on August 1st, quite a difference. -- Dave Fareham (W) |

This spring/summer I've got so used to getting up in the morning with the warm, dazzling sunlight streaming in through the windows that last week there was one morning when this didn't happen and it was cloudy and dull. It came as a shock, everything seemed so dark and miserable. Reminded me of those few weeks from early December to the middle of January when the sun is only just rising (around 08:10) when I have to get up in the morning for work and that's quite depressing. Thankfully by early February the sun is up before I am! -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |
