By the same logic I suppose Cairngorm is on Speyside :-)

Oh they'll sieze upon that one allright!

It's like when you see a headline of '99mph on the south coast'
then find out it's from The Needles, which is exposed even by
coastal standards, never mind being remotely representative of
where anybody actually lives.

But they always do this, I had to laugh at the reporter yesterday
who had clearly been placed right on top of a cliff somewhere, so
quite obviously he was being buffeted around, but of course that's
the whole point.

Hi, Norman,
I know what you mean, but it is included in the Upper Teesdale nature
reserve.
Doesn't seem to bother our press. I usually put information from there on
the website to stop them calling me (;0)

Some might argue that anemometers 10 metres up in the open air aren't
representative of where most people actually live.

I'm sticking with my back garden anemometer at 3 metres (to get it
above the garden walls) but of course, it will never report wind
speeds remotely interesting to the media, or most weather enthusiasts
for that matter, however representative of real life in suburbia it
may be. Highest gust yesterday: 23 mph.
