So that is now two consecutive summer months with 100mm rainfall after
the 18mm so far today. A rare event indeed in these parts and no such other occasion can I find since my rainfall records started in 2008. There have only been five other months with 100mm in that period and August last year had 71.5 mm in one day. There have been many months with figures in the 90's so it is clearly a bit of a threshold. Dave |

Monthly totals this year so far: Jan 368 mm Feb 371 mm Mar 91 mm Apr 139 mm May 115 mm Jun 75 mm (dry) Jul 24 mm (very dry) So 3 relatively dry months so far this year :-) Will -- http://www.lyneside.demon.co.uk/Hayt...antage_Pro.htm Will Hand (Haytor, Devon, 1017 feet asl) --------------------------------------------- |

This is extreme in desert Essex. 200mm in two months, 560 mm so far this year and no tumbling hillside streams to take it away from the clay plains :-( |

Strange how this rain event is almost a year to the day of a similar one last August when 32.8mm fell here

If you remember that was the 3 hour downpour that deposited over 100mm in Canvey and 71.5 mm here. This was good old fashioned "it rained all day"! |

You're right - that has just jogged my memory - I was travelling back from camping in Broadstairs just before that deluge arrived - Southend seafront was like a waterfall according to videos posted online,
Rainfall seems quite varied in this event which ran from 6am till just after 9pm here Wanstead 22.2mm, Laindon 25.3mm, Woodford Wells 35mm?? Is Ron's station playing up? A station in North London recorded 38.5mm. Interestingly St James Park, my closest official station, recorded 38.2mm - the highest 24hr total 6am to 6am. That is some difference, the rain band must have pivoted |

That is some difference, the rain band must have pivoted 21.0mm now since it started yesterday, funny sort of weather atm, breezy NE'ly can see some blue sky about between the scud and at time quite wet light rain. Not sure if that heavier band over Kent has my name on it or not, it's a close call. -- Keith (Southend) "Weather Home & Abroad" http://www.southendweather.net Twitter:@LawnscienceEssx |

There seems to be quite a bit of rain around north and south of us at the moment. Slight drizzle is as much as we have had here since 07:00. Alan |
