After ex hurricane Bertha passed at the end of week 1 with considerable
associated rain the weather became gradually cooler and more unsettled
than in the previous summer weeks. There was very high rainfall of which
50% fell in two separate days at either end of the month. Much also fell
at night or in the early hours so it seemed less wet than it was. It was
quite sunny at times during the unsettled spell and despite the coolness
still appeared a more summery month to me than it actually was.
