Catch this radar in time and you will see why - an almost stationary intense band across upstate NY. http://weather.cod.edu/satrad/nexrad...=BUF-N0Q-1-200 According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, the largest snow event on record was 81.6 inches in 2001, accumulated over the course of five days. While snowfall records are not kept for locations other than Buffalo itself, seven feet is still a good indicator of a historic snow event in the region, and south Buffalo will rival that amount by Thursday. I'm not far from there at the moment - but far enough, thank goodness. Just a couple of inches here (Indiana) but the coldest November day since 30 Nov 1976... -14C in Indianapolis this morning. If you subscribe to Facebook then look up National Weather Service Buffalo as a good source of photos. Stephen. |

Vigorous but very shallow convection with the cloud base pretty well at the surface. I wonder how far the water vapour went up before condensing and coming down again. Not very far, I'd say, but I suppose one would still have to call it Cb. What is the surface temperature of Lake Erie? The air itself is not tremendously cold (-5 to -8) but of course it is only mid-November. Thanks for the vid. Tudor Hughes, Warlingham, Surrey. |
