Ramrod-straight westerly:
http://expert-images.weatheronline.c...22200_1800.gif

Followed by a ramrod-straight northerly

http://expert-images.weatheronline.c...22800_1800.gif

If the latter comes off I wonder if there'll be any embedded "fun" within it...

My own current favourite chart is the Parallel GFS's 0Z +240 as shown on
Wetterzentrale. Of course by the time you read this the 6Z will probably
be up, which no doubt will be totally different.

Northerlies are pretty good for us on Dartmoor, snow showers seem to feed in
off the Bristol Channel as the wind is often backed a little. NNW'ly isobars
are the perfect snow direction. But any direction barring NNE to ENE will
give us snow showers provided the air is cold enough. The benefits of being
at altitude on a peninsula surrounded by relatively warm seas!

Wow! I bet the coldies on TWO board will be drooling over that one. I'm
travelling to Hampshire in that period, could be great fun if it verifies
:-)

You mean this one?

http://expert-images.weatheronline.c...22800_1800.gif

This is why I never use Wetterzentrale any more - you can refer to older model runs on Weatheronline. I am enjoying these parallel runs. Fascinating stuff to see the impact of resolution.

[Although I note that they've removed the UKMO feed now as they tell me they get it (I'm assuming here the GRIB/NetCDF) from NCEP and it's become unreliable - which is a shame. Wonder if the fault lies with the UKMO?]

No. Is that perhaps showing the "regular" GFS rather than the Parallel?
(AIUI, it's so-called because it's a supposedly improved beta version
being run for now in parallel with the original, but which should be
replacing the original in the very near future. From your next
paragraph, it sounds like you know all that, but some readers may not.)

I'm a crerature of habit, but perhaps I ought to investigate the
Weatheronline charts.

I've noticed on Wetterzentralle that the UKMO charts sometimes come up
with a "grid undefined" error message, which I imagine is another
manifestation of the same problem.

I shouldn't think so, why? Does it matter? Are you? Are you a tad homophobic then?

And not unexpectedly, the 12Z operational and parallel GFS runs both
look very different from the 0Z, with quite an intense anticyclone
becoming slow-moving not far to the south of the UK.
