Perhaps I'm slow on the uptake but I've just noticed that the full list of
hourly SYNOPs from UK and Ireland is now available from the usual internet sites in the USA. The last time I checked it was only 3-hourly that were available (6-hourly for Ireland). Indeed, there's now a very comprehenseve set of SYNOPs for the whole of Europe available hourly. -- Norman Lynagh Tideswell, Derbyshire 303m a.s.l. http://peakdistrictweather.org |

It's been like that for a long time now, for a change the UKMO don't skimp when it comes to SYNOP data. Personally I've just swapped to using OGIMET for all my SYNOPs and made FSU my first reserve. I keep getting people saying that SYNOP data will be discontinued but its managed to survive to 2015 thank goodness. Bruce. |

It is BUFR data 're-encoded into SYNOP that you are seeing. But that service won't last forever. Best to make the jump to BUFR - there are free decoders available. -- Freddie Pontesbury, Shropshire 102m AMSL http://www.hosiene.co.uk/weather/ https://Twitter.com/PontesburyWx for hourly reports |

Thanks for that, but I was really looking for something where you paste the data in, and it crunches the numbers for you. ![]() -- Paul Hyett, Cheltenham |
