Default Penzance -Clear frost night - Another cloudless start

After a max of 8.5C yesterday, the wind dropped away to give a starlight frosty night with a minimum of -0.8C, just shy of the coldest night of the winter.

Currently cloudless with a light NE wind, temperature already back to 5.2C @ 09:00.

.. . and cloudless all day once again. Visibility only moderate to good though, yesterday was very good to excellent.

Maximum of 9.6C in Penzance, 10.2C at Land's End where the wind was offshore, 8.3C at St.Ives where I was today (onshore NE wind).

Sunset at Land's End http://www.landsendweather.info/ ,

Swell's largely gone, in fact looks like summer http://www.sennen-cove.com/todaysurf.htm

Whereas, in Tideswell in mid-afternoon we had thick fog with the temp +0.2 and
the wind gusting to 16-18 knots. It was bitter! What a wonderfully diverse
climate we have in these islands.

Yes, it's often pretty remarkable for a smallish island.

Still & cloudless here again this morning http://mounthaven.co.uk/webcam/ after a minimum of 1.7C.

A bit different to what's forecast, nasty black clouds all day http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/w...27?tab=fiveDay

Well Ken, it would be great if it could last a bit longer! 9C @ 09:00 at your location in February, and under cloudless skies, must be very unusual?

Just got back home (11:50) now 10.8C, 1st day 10C this month. Still basically cloudless, literally 1 or 2 very small Cu over the hills to the NW. Completely calm as well.

The cloud several miles off the north coast seems to be dispersing if anything. No sign of cloud off Land's End http://www.landsendweather.info/

A startling difference to this time last year.

It must also be very rare for Penzance to be colder than Copley, as it
seems that it was around 8 or 9am. Is there a whacking great inversion
that Copley is above?

Inversion could be the answer, or warmer air aloft being brought down by the lee wave? Although Great Dun Fell didn't show anything unusual today. It was warm up there over the weekend:-

Highest temperatures now are certainly over this side of the Pennines
11.4C high here but some of the lower sites in the Vales of Durham and York have overtaken us now. They were much colder than us at the 09Z ob.

Eventual max of 11.3C here Ken, highest since 11.7C on 14th Jan, so unusually very similar to you.

Still sunny, the thin and broken Sc sheet still hasn't made it across from the north coast. It's made it a fair bit chillier this afternoon over at Camborne though, where it's now down to near 7C.

Graham
