A warm sector westerly wind is very different to a warm sector SW in Penzance. Under these conditions we benefit from the descent off the moors.
As a result good sunny spells, with the surrounding hill tops in the mist. As is often the case in these conditions the air is distinctly damp at times. There was a lovely 'mist bow' over the sea when I was at Mousehole earlier. The sea was a turquoise blue, very different to the typical cold steely blue of a northerly. All in all the best day for a while. Maximum was 12.8C, highest max since 10th January. The mistiness is coming back down now, though still thin enough vertically for the blue to show through. A very different day to yesterday, which was really rather wild http://www.sennen-cove.com/24feb15.htm (Doesn't the breakwater look puny? It helps give scale to the sea. Graham Penzance |

I saw a report on the sea conditions at Sennen on the Spotlight Southwest news after the 10pm news on BBC1 (I was in Devon yesterday). -- Freddie Pontesbury, Shropshire 102m AMSL http://www.hosiene.co.uk/weather/ https://Twitter.com/PontesburyWx for hourly reports |

The headland the waves often break right over protects the the cove to a considerable extent from the wind as well as the sea. In fact, in a SW gale the cove's a very sheltered spot - windwise.
