Actually it may not be so easy: An unnamed equatorial cyclone hit the island of Flores between 27 - 29 Apr 1973.

Area affected Flores Sea, Indonesia.
Lowest estimated central pressure 975 hPa.
Maximum estimated mean winds 120 km/h.
Rainfall, seas & storm surge damage. About 1500 people perished. Government buildings, schools, houses, dams and bridges destroyed in four districts of Flores. A 500 ton Timorese fishing vessel Oarbiru sunk in Flores Sea with most of 26 crew drowned.

The storm crossed the equator but remained within the region where they seldom occur.
